The first step in planning a fence is to check with the city building department about setback lines, height restrictions and any construction requirements that may exist. A good idea is to use a survey plan to establish your property line and to discuss your plans with your neighbors. If you are sharing the cost of the fence with your neighbor then the fence should be installed on the property line. If that is not the case, then the fence should be installed inside your property line. One thing to look for in establishing your property line are those surveyor’s metal pins staked in the ground usually on the four corners of your lot. NOTE: According to most bylaws if you are responsible for having a fence built and one side looks more finish, then the nicer side has to face towards your neighbor’s side. As the saying goes “good fences make good neighbors” will truly apply. The most common material used to build fences are:

  • PTW Fence
  • Cedar Fence
  • Chain-Link Fence
  • Ornamental Iron Fence
  • Aluminum Railing – Fence
  • Vinyl Fence
  • Concrete Fence
